SKU:K1337ZZ
Rooted in the warrior traditions of the Indonesian archipelago, this ceremonial vest from Sulawesi represents both functional armor and tribal identity rendered in natural materials. More than 150 seaheart beans are individually drilled and tied across a fiber backing, creating a rigid, disc-layered surface that indigenous communities once wore in both hunt and conflict. Because each vest is assembled by hand within a specific community, no two pieces share the same pattern, density, or character.
- 18 L x 8 W x 48 H inches
- Constructed from over 150 individually drilled seaheart beans secured over a natural fiber backing
- Each piece is entirely handmade, resulting in variation in pattern, bead arrangement, and overall form between individual vests
- Sourced from Sulawesi, an island in the Indonesian archipelago, with direct ties to the indigenous tribes that originated this armor tradition
- Historically worn as both functional body protection during hunting and warfare and as a marker of social standing within tribal communities
- Presented with a stand, though stand design and configuration may vary from piece to piece
